Adopt-a-Hive and Come Join the Fun!
Are you interested in beekeeping as a hobby but not sure you have the time or space?
You want to try beekeeping but don’t want to invest the money in acquiring all the equipment needed to manage a hive of bees until you decide you’re hooked?
Do you travel a lot and want a “back up” in case you aren’t able to tend your hive on a regular basis?
Did you attend a beginner beekeeping school but want reliable access to a more experienced beekeeper for more education?
The Sweet Betsy Farm Adopt-a-Hive program may be for you. You can join Adopt-a-Hive as an individual, a family or a group for the 5 month season.
We will provide you with a hive with Russian descendant Bees and a laying queen in the Sweet Betsy Farm apiary and that hive will be designated as yours for the season.
We do not use any chemicals at Sweet Betsy Farm and will follow that same practice for all adopted hives.
In addition to 3 fun-filled days of Apiary Instruction on how to get started, honey extraction and preparing the bees for winter, Ed or Karen will be available every Friday and Saturday to provide individual assistance and guidance.
Each Adopter will receive 10 pounds of Honey ($90 value) as well as an equal share of 10% of any additional honey harvested from the hives in the Adopt-a-Hive program. The amount of honey harvested will be at the discretion of Sweet Betsy Farm with the goal to keeping our bees as healthy as possible.
We have programs to fit individuals, families and even school groups. All the fun of beekeeping without the long-term commitment. For additional information, contact Ed Speer at 828-724-4444 or
